Sexual Health Data Policy

At Vali-Date, we believe in being clear and open about what data is used and how it is used. This page is designed to inform you about our practices regarding sexual health data and explain to you how you can manage it.

Does Vali-Date guarantee that sex is safe?

Absolutely not. There is no such thing as 100% safe-sex with any partner. Vali-Date enables you to make informed choices with the information available. Vali-Date is breaking new ground by enabling the sharing of sexual health test results among members. While this offers a layer of protection that was not previously available, Vali-Date cannot guarantee that the data provided is 100% accurate. Medical test results can potentially have false-positive results and false-negative results. Regardless of your test results, we recommend getting re-tested to validate all test results. Furthermore, we all know there can be people that falsify their test results by having other people administer the tests on their behalf and send those tests kits to the lab. This is against Vali-Date policy and any offenders caught will be immediately banned from the app. Vali-Date is working with other labs to offer in-person testing in which an ID must be presented when administering the tests by a lab. When this is available, you will have the ability to select only members that have completed in-person testing, which will offer yet another level of protection.

What do we mean by sexual health data?

Vali-Date offers the ability for you to order STD/STI test kits which you receive at home and self-administer the tests and then ship them to a lab for processing. Your test results can be viewed in the Vali-Date app a few days later. The sexual health data is comprised of the test results. You must view and acknowledge each set of test results you receive.

Where is the sexual health data stored?

All sexual health test results are stored only on the lab's network system. None of your sexual health data persists on Vali-date's network system. Any time you or a member you shared results with view this data, it is streamed real-time from the lab's network system and passes through the Vali-date network system onto the mobile device which requested the data.

Can you search for other members based on their sexual health status?

No, unless a member opts-into a 'like-condition' match group as described in the next section. Unless a member opts-into such a group, no one can search for them based on their sexual health test results. However, members can filter their searches only for other members who have sexual health test results available to share. Members can also filter their searches for other members based on how recent their tests were completed.

What is 'like-condition' match groups?

This is a feature which will be available in an upcoming version of Vali-Date. Members that test positive for specific STDs will be able to opt-into a group in which they can search and be searched by other members matching their condition. For example, members that test positive for HSV2 (Herpes Simplex 2, also known as genital herpes) will have the option to opt-into a group where they can search for other embers with that condition. This will be the same for members that test positive for HIV and members that test positive for both HIV & HSV2.

Who can see your sexual health data?

Initially, only you can see your own sexual health data. After viewing and acknowledging your results, you can share your results with other members that you matched with (i.e., only members that you have liked and they have liked you as well). This consent to share your data is done on a member-by-member basis. You can subsequently evoke this consent on a member-by-member basis as well. After you share results with a member, you're data will only be available to the other member for a one-week timeframe. After that week is up, you will need to provide a new consent to re-share your sexual health data with that member again. If you share your sexual health data with another member you are match with, your data will automatically be unshared if you become unmatched (e.g., either of you remove the other from your liked list).

How often should I get tested?

As often as you like. Members are not required to be tested, but Vali-Date's key differentiator is the ability to share sexual health results with other members. Members can search for other members based on whether or not they have test results, and how recent those test results are.
